Inclined Plane Newton's Laws Studio

Resolve all forces, verify acceleration from Newton's second law, and compare dynamic readings with exam-style derivation.

Force F Velocity v Acceleration a Displacement s

Lesson Focus

  • • Resolve weight into parallel and perpendicular components.
  • • Model static/kinetic friction direction correctly.
  • • Relate net force to motion trend in real time.

Tip: Check sign convention before substituting values in the exam.

Acceleration
0.00 m/s²
Velocity
0.00 m/s
Displacement
0.00 m

Step-by-step Derivation

  1. Choose down-slope as positive direction.
  2. Resolve weight: parallel = mg sinθ, normal = mg cosθ.
  3. Friction magnitude is μN and opposes relative motion.
  4. Apply ΣF = ma to obtain acceleration and direction.

HKDSE Exam Checklist

  • • Include sign for each force component clearly.
  • • State friction direction based on intended motion.
  • • Quote unit for acceleration and force.
  • • Mention if object is at limiting equilibrium.
